Universal Credits, Am I eligible?

WHAT IS UNIVERSAL CREDIT?
Universal Credit is a payment to help with your living costs.
It’s paid monthly – or twice a month for some people in Scotland.
You may be able to get it if you’re on a low income or out of work.
Whether you can claim Universal Credit depends on where you live and your circumstances.
ELIGIBILITY
WHERE YOU LIVE
You can only make a new Universal Credit claim if you live in a ‘full service’ area.
You can use the Citizens Advice eligibility checker to find out if you qualify in your area.
LIVING WITH A PARTNER
You may be able to claim Universal Credit if you or your partner are working.
Your partner’s income and savings will be taken into account, even if they are not eligible for Universal Credit.
HAVING CHILDREN
You can make a new Universal Credit claim if any of the following apply:
You have 2 children or fewer and you live in a ‘full service’ area.
You received Universal Credit in a ‘full service’ area in the previous 6 months and your payments have stopped
You cannot claim if you’ve 3 or more children and you’ve not claimed Universal Credit in the last 6 months.
IF YOU’RE 16 OR 17
You can make a new Universal Credit claim if any of the following apply:
You’re caring for a severely disabled person
You’re responsible for a child
You’re 11 weeks or less pregnant
You’ve had a child in the last 15 weeks
You do not have parental support
TRAINING OR STUDYING FULL-TIME
You can make a new Universal Credit claim if any of the following apply:
You’re responsible for a child, either as a single person or as a couple, if both of you are students
You’re disabled and entitled to Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and have limited capability for work
PENSION CREDIT QUALIFYING AGE
You can only claim if you live with a partner who is eligible for Universal Credit
WHAT YOU WILL GET
STANDARD ALLOWANCE
You can only claim if you live with a partner who is eligible for Universal Credit
Single and under 25 – £251.77
Single and 25 or over – £317.82
In a couple and you’re both under 25 – £395.20
In a couple and either of you are 25 or over – £498.89
IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN
For your first child- £277 (Born before 6th April 2017) – £231.67 (Born on or after 6th April 2017)
For your second child- £231.67 (Per child)
Disabled child- £383.86
