There are some great channels available through Freeview and other free to watch channels, but the fact is, if you want the best of sports, movies and TV shows, you have to pay for a subscription service. Sky TV is one of the most popular while Virgin Media are making a move and there are other companies offering their own packages. So how do you get the best value TV package that includes the channels you want?
If you ring the Sky TV’s contact number, they will tell you that they currently have three packages available. All of them include the latest version of their hardware, called the Sky Q box and the option to include extras such as Sky Fibre, their high-speed broadband package. You can also personalise any of the packages to ensure you get just what you want.
The Original & Sky Q is the lowest price package and includes over 270 channels, Catch Up TV and Sky Atlantic, home to several big new TV series. It also includes the Sky Sports Mix channel, offering a select of events from their main sports channels as well as Sky Sports News and Sky News.
The Variety & Sky Q package is the middle level and includes over 300 channels with Catch Up TV, Sky Atlantic and also Kids TV channels. The Kids section has its own dedicated planner for the kids to schedule and views their own programs easily. It includes Sky Sports News and Mix as well as the Eurosport and At The Races Channels.
Then you can personalise these packages as required with the addition of Sky Cinema and Sky Sports as well as Sky Q Multiscreen. This provides a second mini box that allows the viewing of more channels in another room at the same time.
If you are unsure what package might suit your needs, you can also use the Sky contact number to get a personalised package quote to include the channels you require.
Virgin Media packages
Virgin Media currently offer four different packages to suit the needs of their customers, all on 12 months’ contracts.
The Mix TV package includes 150+ channels including 10 HD channels while the Fun TV package has around 200 channels and 10 HD channels. The Mix TV + Asian Mela TV includes additional 12 Asian TV channels while the Full House package includes around 270 channels with 50+ HD channels with BT Sport and EPSN.
You can add Sky Sports channels to these packages at an extra cost, but there is no access to some of the Sky channels such as Sky Atlantic.
Should you call the Sky contact number and not want their packages or find that Virgin Media doesn’t cover your area, there are a few other providers currently offering paid TV packages.
TalkTalk current offers their TV Plus package that includes 6 Sky channels, on demand and seven days catch up services as well as access to the Freeview channels. It comes with a YouView+ box and unlimited broadband.
BT also offer the YouView+ box with their Entertainment Plus package that includes on-demand channels, BT Sports Pack and the AMC Channel as well as BT TV catch-up services. The package includes unlimited broadband and calls in the price.
There’s no doubt that Sky has the largest range of channels currently available and have the big hitters such as Sky Sports and their movie channels. However, if you aren’t a sports or movies fan, then some of the other packages do offer a good range of channels to suit your needs. If you are a current Sky customer who is unhappy with their package, you can still ring the Sky TV contact number to discuss with them and see if they have any new deals to consider.
