For residents of the Greenwich area of Greater London, the council that looks after them is called the Greenwich London Borough Council.  One of the 32 that make up the capital, it was created in 1963 from two existing councils Greenwich Metropolitan Borough Council and Woolwich Metropolitan Borough Council.

If you need help with council housing, find a school in the area, see when your bin is collected or make a council tax payment, this is who you go to.  They also handle areas such as parking permits, recycling systems, planning applications and leisure services for the area.

The council is split into 17 wards:

Contacting the council

If you are unsure who you need to speak to about your problem, there are two options – you can ring the main switchboard number 020 8854 8888 or you can visit the website https://www.royalgreenwich.gov.uk.  If you want to send paperwork or a query in writing, you can send it to Customer Services, The Woolwich Centre, Wellington Street, Woolwich, SE18 6HQ.  For emergency out of hours contact, you can ring 020 8854 8888 as well.

There is also a second service centre for the council which is located in The Eltham Centre, 2 Archery Road, London SE9 1HA.  This is open from 7 am until 10 pm weekdays and 9 am until 5 m weekends for the self-service kiosk while staff are available from 8 am until 6 pm weekdays and 9 am until 1 pm Saturdays.

There is also a list of different departments on the website with some services available online and contact numbers for others.  For example, the Welfare Rights team are on 020 8921 6375 while the Advice and Benefits team is on 020 8921 4900. For housing services, you can call 020 8921 6383 for general enquiries and 020 8921 8900 for repairs if you live in a council-owned property.
