Can DVLA take you to court?

Yes, the DVLA can take you to court although they will usually do what they can to solve the problem before it gets to that stage.  One of the most common reasons for taking people to court is that they haven’t paid a fine. This might be a fine for not insuring their car or for not taxing the car or using a SORN declaration.

You can also get a trip to court if you owe them money for car tax that you haven’t paid. As well as taking you to court, they also have the power to clamp or crush your car. And they can use a debt collection agency to try to recover the money owed.
