Can DVLA take my car?

It doesn’t tend to be the first option, but yes, the DVLA can take your car in certain situations.  Top of the list is if you don’t have tax on the car and it is kept on public land. You can get a fine, the car can be clamped, or they can take the car and crush it.

The same applies if it is on the public property and doesn’t have insurance on it. This applies even if the vehicle is parked up on the roadside. The only way you can not have insurance is if it is on private property and has been declared SORN.
