Can DVLA release information?
The DVLA have to follow the data protection rules the same as all companies and government departments but that doesn’t mean they can’t release information. What they have to do is make sure that the request is a valid one. For example, the police could request information on where someone lives to find them in relation to a car accident they haven’t reported. Or the local authority might be looking for them and request information.
Some private companies can request information from DVLA as well – clamping companies are a well known example. They can request information if they have a valid reason for it such as someone has parking tickets to pay. They do have to pay for it.
