Derby City Council can help residents with a wide range of problems and services including housing, schooling and leisure facilities.
If you need help or advice about any government or council benefits, then you can contact the customer services team. This includes welfare rights and money advice as well as a number to report fraud relating to benefits. You can even find out about trading standards queries.
If you need community services including to get married, register a birth or get help with childcare, you can contact the main switchboard and speak to the relevant department. This team also handles issues around deaths, funerals and cremations to help you during this difficult time.
For school age children, you can speak to the council if you need parental support or information about extra-curricular activities. If you want to change schools for your child, need help or are unhappy about something, you can chat with the team to get help and guidance. There are also health and social care services for children including family care and safeguarding children schemes if you are concerned about a child.
The council also handles transport and travel issues around the city. This means council-controlled parking as well as roads, highways and pavements. It oversees the public transport network and is responsible for issuing licenses for taxis

The main contact centre for the council is located in Council House, Corporation Street, Derby. The main switchboard for the council office is 01332 640000 and the fax is 01332 643299. There is also a dedicated line for minicom users to ring on 01332 640666. The council offices are open from 8:30am to 5pm from Monday to Friday.
There are a Benefits and Council Tax team available through the main number. They are appointment only, so you need to ring ahead to see someone about these matters. Lined are open from 9am until 3pm weekdays.
In addition to the main number, there are also department contact numbers for different services. The Care Line is the social care out of hours service that is available from 5pm until 9am every day. It can be reached on 01332 786968.
You can speak to the Environmental Enforcement Service for issues with offenders or other problems including abandoned vehicles, stray dogs or noise nuisances. This line is open 9-5 Mon-Thurs at 01332 642020. You can also email the team at [email protected]
There is also an automated 24-hour line for Streetpride, which helps with matters such as fly tipping, street lighting problems, graffiti and potholes. This is available on a local rate number 0333 200 6981.
