For the Croydon area of London, the council authority is called the Croydon London Borough Council.  It is one of the 32 divisions of Greater London and was created in 1964 from Croydon Borough Council and Coulsdon and Purley Urban District Council.

The council is a base for residents to get help and advice on a range of services and issues as well as providing housing and adult social care.  There is a whole range of services offered including council tax collection, rubbish and recycling collection, local schools and childcare services and help with benefits.

The different departments also have their own contact numbers.  For example, the housing department is 020 8726 6100 while the revenues and benefits team can be reached on 020 8726 7000.  The main number for adult social services is 020 8726 6500 or for children, it is 020 8726 6400. If you have an out of hours emergency, you can ring 020 8726 6000.

For problems with the streets and parking you can ring the department on 020 8726 7100 and for education, queries call 020 8726 6400.  Environmental concerns including household waste collection can be answered by 020 8726 6200. Many of the services can also be handled over the website.
