How to Cancel PayPal Payment as a buyer
If you want to cancel a payment as a buyer, you should find understand there are some types of payments you can cancel and some you cannot. To see if you can cancel the payment, go to the ‘pending’ section on your online account and see if there is an ‘unclaimed’ status beside it. This means the payment hasn’t reached the seller and can still be cancelled. If the payment is showing as ‘completed’ then you cannot cancel the payment as it has reached the other person. However, you can still request a refund of the money if you are unhappy with the transaction. If the buyer doesn’t refund the money you can escalate the claim to the Resolution Centre for PayPal to sort.
Cancel PayPal Subscription or PayPal Recurring Payment
If you have a PayPal subscription or a recurring payment with a company, you can cancel this from your online account. Go to settings and then payment and under ‘manage your payment’ click the button to manage payments. Find the seller you want to cancel and click ‘cancel’. You will then confirm this request and it is finalised. Once a recurring payment has been stopped, you cannot reinstate it and would need to set up a new one for payments to start again.
How to Escalate a PayPal Dispute to a Claim
If you are unhappy with the goods or services you have received from PayPal and cannot come to an agreement with the seller, then you can escalate it to PayPal. They will then review the case and decide if you are eligible for a refund or not. This can be done within 20 days of the date the dispute was first registered.
To escalate a dispute, go to the Resolution Centre. Click the view link beside the case you want to escalate and then select to escalate this dispute to a PayPal claim. Instructions will tell you what to do next. PayPal will make a decision within 30 days and if you want to check the status of the claim at any time, just return to the Resolution Centre.
How to Cancel a PayPal Dispute or a Withdrawal
If you have opened a dispute but the matter is then settled between you and seller or you change your mind, you can simply cancel the dispute. To do this, call the PayPal customer services number at the end of the guide. Alternatively, go to the Help section on the website and send the team an email detailing what you want to cancel. Once cancelled, the process cannot be reversed.
